Key updates

The Skilled Workers Immigration Act has formed the legal basis for labour migration to Germany since 2020. From 2023, the Act was further developed and modernised. The aim of the Skilled Workers Immigration Act is to make it easier for qualified skilled workers from abroad to access the German labour market. This is ensured by five key changes:
1. Simplified and faster recognition of qualifications
Germany facilitates the recognition of professional qualifications and continuously adapts them to current requirements. This enables international skilled workers to find employment more quickly.
2. New ‘Opportunity Card’ for job seekers
The Opportunity Card allows you to enter the country without a job offer. It enables you to stay in Germany for up to 12 months to look for work.
3. Extension of the EU Blue Card
The reform of the EU Blue Card has lowered the salary thresholds and is now open to a wider range of professions.
4. Elimination of the priority check and lower language barriers
Viele Fachkräfte müssen keine Vorrangprüfung mehr durchlaufen. Das bedeutet, dass die Bundesagentur für Arbeit nicht mehr prüft, ob eine deutsche Person für die Stelle verfügbar wäre. Zudem wurden Sprachanforderungen für viele Berufsgruppen reduziert oder gestrichen.
5. Easier entry into the workforce for people with vocational training
People with recognised vocational qualifications can now enter the country and work more easily.
